I was hiring recently, and one of the ways we advertised the position was that I tweeted the job description, and I arranged with the our social media team for them to retweet it for additional visibility. Candidates responding to that tweet generally contacted me via twitter DM - why wouldn't they? It's not like I conducted interviews in that medium, but it's not really any different than the people who initiated contact via email.
