Ask HN: Can you please help me support my tvguide project?

5 points by _8pcm 4y ago

Hi I'm [name redacted], creator of [name and link redacted] tvguide project, been around since may/2016. It's a curated and manually updated content. Currently I'm working on version 2 with more features, like Movies/Collages/Boxsets. It takes a lot of work, but I've been doing it mostly as a hobby. This is the first time ever I'm asking for donations publicly on HN. I could really use your help with donations. [name redacted] never used any advertisments and most traffic is word of mouth users with little to no donations. With your help I can make public website more open to everyone to enjoy. If you are interested in this type of content please consider helping [link redacted]. By making a donation you will receive full account with more features :) Comments are welcome but please be kind, this is the first time I ask for help on HN like this ^_^ Private email comments (in my HN profile page) are okay too. Thank you and happy holidays to everyone!

I looked up a show that is in reruns on the Comet TV network (which I get with my antenna), there are no schedules for it for it on your site https://tvnfo.com/tv/2100451 https://tvnfo.com/tv/2100451 but i can see it here https://comettv.com/schedule/ https://comettv.com/schedule/

Thank you for looking and your comment. I do some reruns but not all, and public website is limited compared to what donor users see. But I'm hopping with more donations I can change this, and have more data available for everyone to enjoy.

Add an ETH address somewhere and I'll send $50. I don't use this service because I don't watch television but it looks like it would be useful for people who do. Also couldn't you just scrape https://www.tvguide.com/listings/ https://www.tvguide.com/listings/?

Thank you, I'll add ETH shorly. As for scraping, I don't do any automation on site. Everything is done by hand that what makes it so unique. However, when it comes to reruns, maybe in the future I'll implement something for that.

Yes I see it, thank you so much! ^_^ EDIT: I've updated BTC/ETH/LTC/BCH addresses. Anonymous donations are okay. But if you want (on request) I can include you/company/website/amount in donation page. Thank you!
