- dragonwriter 4y ago> For some reason we rarely see people up in arms about lawn mowers/leaf blowers/parties/screaming children etc. Complaints about leaf blowers are extremely common, and parties are one of the most frequent targets of noise complaints to actual enforcement bodies.
- Mezzie 4y agoAnd yet we don't prohibit the ownership or use of leaf blowers or police party noise. You can own the loudest sound systems known to man. I just find the way we change arguments around hobby externalities depending on the hobby to be interesting.
- mrcode007 4y agoHere’s an article on gas powered leaf blower ban: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38004981/california-ban-gas-powered-lawn-equipment/ https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38004981/california-ban-g... Here’s the actual law in CA: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1346 https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtm... FWIW electric leaf blowers do make significantly less noise
- dragonwriter 4y ago> And yet we don't prohibit the ownership or use of leaf blowers or police party noise We actually do police party noise, plus have the police use noise ordinance complaints as cause to probe for other citable/arrestable violations at private parties. And we do regulate time, place, and manner of use of leaf blowers in many jurisdictions.
- mrcode007 4y agoThe lawn care equipment noise complaints are so common, that for example in NYC you have a dedicated portal to filing just those complaints. https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01101 https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01101 Edit: just to illustrate how stringent the laws can be I’ll paste from the link: “You are never allowed to use equipment that makes unreasonable noise. If a park is 300 feet or more from any residential buildings, park staff are allowed to use equipment between 7 AM and 8 AM.“
- Mezzie 4y agoI like this and it is very consistent.
