- tibbydudeza 4y agoHere we either collect packages from a distribution place or a courier will hand delivery and have somebody sign for the delivery - leaving a package on a porch is rather baffling.
- thehappypm 4y agoIt’s much faster. So, they need fewer trucks, fewer drivers. It appears to be cheaper to let some packages get stolen and eat that cost than it would be to slow down deliveries.
- tibbydudeza 4y agoPoint taken - just shrinkage in the system or no Amazon Prime.
- avgDev 4y agoAllegedly. I know people who stole their own packages, the 2nd item they just resold.
- mox1 4y agoIs this just an Amazon ad / puff-piece ? The retired Police officer recommends "Amazon key" as his first defense. Then after that he recommends Amazon locker. Lastly the officer recommends a Ring camera. Not a video camera or video doorbell, but a "Ring". The article then goes on to give you an exact link for signing up to Amazon key and mentions Prime members. The pictures are from a Ring camera. The word Amazon appears like 5 times in the article.....
- phone8675309 4y agoI never understood the historical practice of cutting off the hands of recidivist petty thieves until porch pirates started stealing my packages. Now I'm fully onboard.
- yourapostasy 4y agoI wonder if there are any statistical correlations between an increase in porch pirates and other crime? Also, I wonder if the Glitter Bomb lessons can be applied using a DNA forensic property marking system to secure nearly 100% conviction rates and fast response by law enforcement seeking to juice their arrest-to-conviction metrics. Might have to leave an actual Amazon delivery in the bait box to secure proof of harm in court? Instead of only spraying glitter, also spray the DNA marker and live narrowcast both GPS and an OpenHaystack transmitter to law enforcement to direct them in real-time to the right door to investigate.
- feet 4y agoWhat exactly is a "DNA marker"?
- yourapostasy 4y agoSynthetically-manufactured uniqely coded DNA that is sprayed onto perpetrators of a crime linking them from days to months to a location and/or property. An example of one of many companies in the space [1]. A search that opens up some rabbit holes [2]. More needs to be done in the space to develop it (there are several defeats I can think of as long as a perpetrator is aware such a system is in use), but it is still a promising channel to speed up investigation, indictment, prosecution, and sentencing.
