I think having the documentation close to the code it documents does make sense though - otherwise it quickly gets disconnected. You just need to create a cult

I think having the documentation close to the code it documents does make sense though - otherwise it quickly gets disconnected. You just need to create a culture where approval of any code change should also include change to the documentation in the same set of commits.
