True he is a war criminal and probably an awful person in most ways. That does not mean his understanding of the situation is incorrect. And I can’t disagree with most of what he’s saying from an utilitarian point of view. To be fair I would expect a cold blooded sociopath/psychopath to be more rational than most people (e.g. Kitchner is not unlike Hannibal Lecter in that way)
