2022 was the year of Linux on the Desktop
- themodelplumber 4y ago> 2018 through 2021 saw steady growth with 23.2% , 25.6% , 26.6% , 25.3% , and finally in 2022 the usage was 40.23%. Linux usage was more than macOS in 2021, but only by a small margin. 2022 it is now 9% more than macOS. Wow. (Anecdotally, bleeding edge Mac OS and Windows have never seemed more cringe, from everything I've read. Related?) I started my Linux journey as a proud contrarian back in the late '90s, but these days I admit it feels like much less of a contrarian platform. In the late '90s it seemed like you could throw a dime out the window and hit a windows power user, but these days I have to look out for Linux admins who are also out there in numbers... Still, I really enjoyed all those little gray penguin icons on the gaming sites in 2022. And where there's not a penguin, chances are there's a YT or GitHub tutorial. That's been a very welcome change.
- simonblack 4y ago2001 was the Year of Linux on my Desktop - and that's the only Desktop that really matters. Prior to that, 1991 was the Year of UNIX on my Desktop. I'm lucky in that there never was a Year of Windows on my Desktop. YMMV.
