What is the point of this? The Russian invasion in February has made salient the possibility of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and upped the likelihood of WW-III and nuclear escalation in general (even though it left the front pages mostly, for military analysts possibility is now higher and ever increasing as the conflict drags on. Even though the Russians are struggling, don't underestimate China's ability to rationalize a move by concluding they have learned what pitfalls to avoid. If PsyOps against Russia and China prevent me from dying in a nuclear exchange, I'm all for it. February 2022 was a hinge point in history. It moves horrific scenarios into the plausibility that were, at best hazy potentials even a year earlier.

- moose_man 4y agoI mean who is hanging protestors in public squares after declaring the person guilty of "waging war against god"? Who is supplying Russia with Kamikaze drones to destroy civilian infrastructure in Ukraine? Iran. Who is committing textbook definition levels of genocide in Ukraine and mass executions, along with destroying civilian infrastructure. Russia. Who is launching simulated blockade and bombing runs on Taiwan because the House Speaker dared visit. China. Given the events of the last year, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this.
- stjohnswarts 4y agoA lot of US and non US citizens think the US should just curl up and act like nothing is happening and all the other countries are doing what they're doing because they're fighting American oppression. Russia didn't need to invade Ukrain, China doesn't need to attack taiwan, Iran doesn't need to promote terrorism all over the world. I don't think we should stand back and let that stuff happen.
