Some times it is. It really depends on the condition, specific case and the way you treat them. To me it seems obvious that at least in some cases it is, even if not in many. May be hard to tell in advance though. There are cases when a person is not in the mood (to put it mildly) to accept help but really needs it and will sincerely appreciate it once a relief comes. The opposite question is also valid by the way: is it humane to leave the insane to struggle and roam the streets untreated?
