From proving Einstein wrong to the Nobel Prize: interview with Anton Zeilinger
- jfengel 4y agoI had my usual hackles up when I read "proving Einstein wrong", but yeah, Zeilinger actually did do that. Usually when I read people declaring that they've proven Einstein wrong, it's about relativity. Zeilinger's work is very indirectly related to relativity, but what it does affirms Einstein. Einstein was wrong that (special) relativity conflicts with quantum mechanics -- but only because he didn't want to believe the results of his own work. Einstein proved Einstein wrong by proving Einstein right. Einstein's conclusion was indeed bizarre, but it left a very clear path for experiment to prove it, and Zeilinger achieved that. Pretty cool.
