I have a high school friend who is the same way. It's beyond traumatizing for his friends and family. Many of them live in fear. Same story, neither confining him nor forcibly medicating him are options, so he roams around, unable to hold jobs, randomly threatening various people. I worry that one day he'll end up being shot by police or something. It's awful.
