Racers, mechanics, tinkerers converting classic cars to EVs
- satiric 4y agoSeems like a lot of people are converting classic cars to electric nowadays, and as the article says, using the entire Tesla rear end is common. One annoyance with this (other than issues with mounting points and the distance between the rear tires vs stock) is that you're stuck with the stock Tesla brake rotors, which means that you're running minimum 17in wheels - i.e., you can't use the stock wheels, so you're stuck with building a resto-mod instead of a sleeper. The other problem with this is that you can fairly easily end up with rear brakes that are far better than the front brakes (backwards from what you usually want), unless you significantly upgrade the front brakes. That being said, it's still probably the cheapest and simplest way to get a lot of electric power (although it's still not gonna be cheap or simple).
