I think this is the right set of values for going in to academics again. Years correlate less with the ability to go to uni, life and financials are the decisive factors. You won't fit if you have two kids and mortgage. A wise woman I met said to me when she was around 60 that she should go to university again as she likes the good boost to critical thinking. She ought to do that in every 10-15 year and it's about time. I'd say it's a nice example to follow.
