Subscriptions are fine for services I can live without. The barrier to entry is lower than a full cost of the software and I can cancel the subscription whenever I want. This is to me a win-win situation. I would absolutely reject a subscription for using my operating system though. So yeah, subscriptions are fine but not for everything.
