Let's say a consensus arises among academics that Bitcoin will not be stable w/o the block reward. Will Bitcoin developers actually change the protocol before the block reward becomes smaller than tx fees (say 2050)? My impression is that they are very conservative, and resistant to making the sort of big change that this would involve
- tromp 4y agoSome will change it and launch a fork eventually. The majority will realize that Bitcoin's immutability is its greatest asset and stick with the 21M limit that is at the core of Bitcoin's identity. The market will decide which one prevails.
