The article gives a good overview of why ventilation and filtration is important but in my opinion misses on the importance of monitoring.
At AirGradient we do monitor thousands of indoor spaces and we do see very different patterns of indoor air pollution that need different solutions.
Often it is a lack of fresh air that leads to a high CO2 built up. Sometimes it is high PM2.5 either from outdoor or indoor sources (eg 3D printers) and we also have cases where we detect leaking chemicals measured by TVOCs.
These different indoor air quality problems need very different solutions to fix them. Some depend on what filters to use, some about eliminating of indoor contamination sources or changes in HVAC or sealing of cracks to prevent dirty air from entering.
The monitoring should also consist of an outdoor monitor to better understand how the indoor air quality reacts to outdoor changes and to better identify indoor sources.
By the way if you are interested to monitor your home, we maintain popular open-hardware air quality monitoring kits [1].
