Makes sense. I remember back when they exploited the law in PA that the dead can't claim libel to print the names of every single pedophile priest, along with the ones who enabled them like Father Ted Rutkowski, one of the men who oversaw my communion, my altar server training, and my confirmation.
They told us altar servers he was an alcoholic and thus couldn't drink the blood of Christ and not to bully him for it... they made it out like people bullied him for a medical condition. Lots of people drink too much, often due to the same traumas that can make someone the type of introvert who becomes a priest... but those alcoholic don't move around pedophile priests like pawns on a chessboard.
I remember when the reports[1] came out in 2018, I tried to share some articles about Russian dissidents who had disrupted services at Orthodox masses to call attention to the plight of victims in their country. Rather than find these folks brave, the parishioners I shared those articles with told me they'd had issues with people "talking too much" at/after mass, and went on to muse that maybe if someone attempts to do a full on protest at my former (Roman Catholic) parish, someone should just shoot them, under the guise they're concerned that the person is mentally ill, and may become violent.
If you truly are aggrieved someone does a protest during your religious service, the proper response is to have them hit with a disorderly conduct charge and trespassed out... if you take a shot at someone speaking the kinds of things I was hearing spoken... it makes you look like you're conspiring to silence victims.
(For context, before I quit Facebook in 2016, I was the creator and administrator of the alumni group for the Catholic school I attended. I don't think the younger kids necessarily knew who I was... I didn't friend people I haven't met, especialluy so the younger folks couldn't see my profile beyond the name. I basically let the group run itself absent hate speech or some weirdo who didn't live in the township asking when cheerleading practice is. That guy... that was the one guy I tracked him down at the library he liked to messaged kids from, tapped him on the shoulder and gave him an earful, then removed him from the group before turning over the admin role to a classmate and moving out of state to start my PhD -- or at least that's how I remember it, I don't keep notes on that time period, and I might be condensing things.)
Anyways, sorry for the wall of text, but to this day I still have weird Opus Dei types give me grief for not being sufficiently deferential to dead abuse enablers like Father Ted, and apparently, it made people uncomfortable that I often post anonynously on the internet?
So here I am, in a coffeeshop next to the library where I got my first card as a child -- posting on a nym that half of Silicon Valley knows who holds.
(As they say on the West Coast: fuck around and find out.)
