This feels a bit revisionist to me. There's a long and storied history of conmen, charlatans, and scam artists going back to at least thousands of years and probably to the dawn of human culture.
I haven't seen any evidence yet that would lead me to believe the rate of scams are rising or that there's been a significant change in human behavior regarding this recently.

- akudha 4y agoAre people more racist, sexist, dumb etc today, compared to 50-100 years ago? I’d guess no, but it feels that way because of the global and instant nature of the internet. YouTube is filled with videos of people doing dumb things. Similarly, a conman can reach hundreds of millions of people today vs a few thousand at best, 100 years ago. It is also cheaper. Everything is amplified and today - especially bad behavior.
