Sorry to say I felt pretty much the same way (although, the acknowledgement that the theory was not new, but the path was not followed simply because of lack of available tech sounds plausible.)
Apparently Helion is a YC company, so if they fooled the investors, than it means those investors are more foolish than you would expect :/ ...
Now, either they'll publish in "Science" or "Applied Whatever", and it's #RoadToNobelPrize ; or they'll get their face on the cover of Time, and we'll know for sure it's a scam.
(In which case, this documentary will serve as reference footage when someone has to shoot the Helion version of "Bad Blood" ?)
- dogma1138 4y agoWhat here is exactly Nobel prize worthy? There is no new physics here fusion was always an engineering challenge the physics is rather well understood.
- moloch-hai 4y agoPlasma fluid dynamics is arbitrarily hard. It counts as physics.
- kjeetgill 4y agoThe Nobel Prizes are awarded to "those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind." I'd always heard it as: It's not just about new physics but about impact for actual people. Is it awarded that way? I couldn't say. But cracking fusion sounds worthy to me.
