I think you are conflating socialism with statism. Personally I don't believe Marxism to imply state control, or public ownership to mean state ownership. I'd also see ownership models to include workers and customers. e.g. as a seasonal reference Building and Loan from It's a Wonderful Life. Of course not everyone sees it that way.
