I think simply guessing "times" vs "helvetica" brings you close enough to guess the letters. Optimize score by shuffling the baselines around a bit and go through all the letters to find the right ones and you should be good. Work in blocks of 3-5 letters while shuffling them around and stretching the spacing, you might even have a fairly good guess.
