I'm not an Apple books user, but I find almost every skeuomorphic animation annoying and useless. Does the app have a way to turn those off? I strongly prefer the continuous scrolling mode from the Kindle. On further thought, any kind of UI animation bothers me. I don't need the computer to waste my time, I just want it to do what I told it.
