I do a lot to reduce my carbon footprint already, so giving up my daily 5-10 minute hot shower is going to be towards the end of my list when it comes to reducing further. Living in the North East US, we have plenty of water here and shortages have never been an issue. If we can stop growing water-hungry crops in the desert there will be plenty of water to go around. Moving to hybrid solar/electric or solar/gas water heating is the next logical step. Direct solar heating of water works very well.
