Would raising minimum wage do anything for a company that is already knowingly hiring illegal immigrants? They won't exactly be contacting the local labor authorities. And near me, at least people don't want the jobs because they demand crazy things. I recently interviewed for a warehouse position that paid 24 an hour, but turns out they were demanding 6 day work weeks and 55-60 hours a week because they were short staffed. And they were a union place so the employees with seniority got to choose the shifts, so I would be stuck with some 15 hour shifts. That is more than double the minumum wage, people just won't do that unless they are very desperate.
