- nine_k 4y agoMany / most plants need some darkness to keep internal clocks properly functioning. So maybe the effective day could be extended a bit, but likely not a whole lot; IDK if the increase in growth would be worth the LEDs.
- ggm 4y agoThis is exactly the kind of problem linear optimisation a.k.a operations research (O/R) is designed to assess.
- giantg2 4y agoHere's some cool info about extended sunlight crops. https://www.amusingplanet.com/2015/10/alaskas-giant-vegetables.html?m=1 https://www.amusingplanet.com/2015/10/alaskas-giant-vegetabl...
- nine_k 4y agoImpressive! Alaska outperforming warmer regions due to longer days is not something I had expected.
- moloch-hai 4y agoPlants in fields typically get way more light than they need, as it is, and benefit from shade. Some pepper varieties show 3x yield, given afternoon shade. I wonder about powering UV LEDs under crop plants to control weeds.
- winReInstall 4y agoThere was a study in germany on this.. 20 % are enough for 80 % yield..
