This is crazy. They are going to be left behind. Other companies are going to create a working business model and beat them. There's no reason they can't create a company that deals with beta tools and have it take on the reputation risk. My suspicion is that they are protecting their search engine and the revenue stream it provides. A similar mistake to companies that have disappeared because they were afraid of creating a product that would hurt their revenue.
