I strongly disagree with the first point: As a society the more we discover, the more we increase the surface of the discoverable and the more we can combine things. It only gets harder for the individual because it takes longer and longer to learn everything necessary to get to the frontier of the unknown. It is not a problem of running out of viable research topics.
