It doesn't take much for us to believe someone is human, mostly confirming expected behaviors, doing small talk, etc. But AI NPCs will do all that and seem to have will and even conscience.
I feel dizzy trying to think through the social and emotional ramifications of becoming seriously attached to NPCs who seem real and can articulate their feelings and share experiences with us.
- kulahan 4y agoWow, that second part is really nuts to think about, and I hadn't considered it before. You'll form connections based on personal conversations privy ONLY to you, then potentially watch that character die forever. If it's permanent, and not deterministic, you've quite literally lost that person forever.
