I will probably write a character set checker for ascii tomorrow, I agree unicode is pretty much a security vulnerability anywhere but the frontend (for non copied display). Heck, it might even be a reasonable idea to bake anti-unicode into the system (kernel) and require elevated access to process it at all in a sandbox...
