I think the problem with self driving vehicles -- to add to that conversation, is the companies focus on the wrong market.
For people it is asking for them to give up control either as drivers or as pedestrians in a city. Most people like to have a sense of control of their lives. (My take anyways. I know lots of people like having tracks in their career and progress but I would argue they still feel in control.)
For the whole truck shipping lobby on the other hand it will be: save money. (I know that is a dystopian take, but I find me more likely for trucking or something similar to be the first fortress to "fall")
