After using chatGPT for relationship advice, to help a friend generate a City Green Building Code, and how to politely decline my mother’s clay holiday art gift, I have come to the conclusion that the skills my kids will need to succeed in life are:
1. To ask the right questions
2. To exercise good judgement
These are, to my mind, durable human moats.
- nscalf 4y agoThis was true before ChatGPT and the AI wave. Fundamentally what you described is how we interact with Google. It’s been a differentiator for many years.
- scrappyjoe 4y agoI may be misunderstanding, but I read your comment as implying that chatGPT has eliminated these differentiators. If that’s the case, why?
- xwowsersx 4y agoNo, they're saying that the skills outlined in parent comment were an important differentiator even before chatGPT because those skills became (increasingly) necessary as we came to rely more and more on Google search.
- pleb_nz 4y agoWhy Google search? Wouldn't this supply to any modern search engine?
- xwowsersx 4y agoYeah I think so. Any search. I think we say Google because it's become almost a stand-in for "search", like "let me Google that". Also, ubiquitous reliance on search in every day life really became a thing with Google (correct me if I'm wrong)
