I haven't used raid for an OS or boot partition in years. We focus on provisioning and HA. Data goes on a raid an that's it. Servers go boom, refuse to boot, or even get trigger a few alarms. Disk is replaced, server is booted, and provisioning paves the entire thing faster than you'd be able to debug.
