The Wright Brothers were American. Who are you attributing the invention of airplanes to?
- taylodl 4y agoThere were several powered flights prior to the Wright Brothers. The Europeans had already figured out lift and control surfaces. They had even figured out thrust, but they were using small steam engines so they could maximize the power to weight ratio, but it wasn't enough power for human flight. It was the Wright Brothers who used the internal combustion engine, another European invention, to solve the thrust problem. There's legitimate contention as to whether they were even the first to do that, but they're officially recognized as the first airplane for human flight. My point being the Wright Flyer didn't just pop out of thin air (ha!). The Wright Brothers stood on the shoulders of giants, European giants.
