It’ll be fun in 10 years when you need the equivalent of calling cards to access foreign sites.
In the end it’s hilarious how the American government thinks of its citizens as being so clueless to need such a paternalistic policy.
I wonder how many tiktokers even care about the fact that the app is Chinese.
- par 4y ago> American government thinks of its citizens as being so clueless to need such a paternalistic policy. uh... you really haven't met a lot of US citizens if you think they don't need paternalistic policy.
- endisneigh 4y agoOh I have. Plenty of Americans do things obviously bad for themselves. Should all of those things be illegal? Debatable
- tene80i 4y agoShould it be none of them?
- kelseyfrog 4y agoIt should be either all or none. No nuance or gray areas at all.
- NaturalPhallacy 4y agoFreedom is nothing more than the right to do the "wrong" thing.

- rootusrootus 4y ago> It’ll be fun in 10 years when you need the equivalent of calling cards to access foreign sites. The world was headed that way a long time ago, and this wouldn't significant change anything. Assuming it could ever pass, it looks like typical political theater to me.
- rayiner 4y ago> In the end it’s hilarious how the American government thinks of its citizens as being so clueless to need such a paternalistic policy Is it? Given how Tik Tok content is regulated in China, the Chinese seem to agree.
- Sakos 4y ago> thinks of its citizens as being so clueless to need such a paternalistic policy. Half the US voters in 2016 voted for Trump. So ... yeah. Am I taking crazy pills? Why is it suddenly okay in modern times that a geopolitical rival controls a major communication medium for your own population? It's as if people still haven't learnt anything from Russia invading Ukraine (or really, all of history).
