Vegetable Prices Soar 40% as Crops Fail Under Extreme Weather
- tengbretson 4y agoI've never seen weather so bad that it makes produce's price go up a whole year in advance. Incredible.
- skyyler 4y agoThe first sentence in the article linked in TFA: >Prices for vegetables have almost doubled since last year after the states that grow fresh produce for the US winter saw water cuts and storms that decimated supply. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-09/us-vegetable-prices-soar-nearly-40-as-water-cuts-crush-supply?sref=P6Q0mxvj&leadSource=uverify%20wall https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-09/us-vegeta... It's not that complicated to understand. Did you miss the discussions of water rights last year and every year before that for the last, like, decade?
- nyc_data_geek1 4y agoThis is a deeply unserious comment, clearly ignorant of the information presented in TFA. To wit; "The decreasing amount of snow and rain has dwindled in recent years, moving into its 23rd year of drought, causing the Colorado River to shrink, according to research by Nature Climate Change." That's the second paragraph. Take your idiologically driven denial of basic reality somewhere else. HN should not allow this kind of drek to foul the discussion.
- djohnston 4y agoThis article is pretty funny. The only data they provide is the price of the crop. They talk about extreme weather events and leave out the one piece of data that would confirm their theory, which is the aggregate yield of crops :O. Absolute drivel.
