Is this a big admission? There are only a handful of volume phone sensor suppliers. Anyone skilled in the trade would be able to identify the maker with a scan of the sensor (or disassemble the phone and check the part number). And, the sensor only gets you so far, sophisticated software can make a given sensor produce better final images, as Google has been demonstrating for several years.

- acdha 4y agoIt's not an admission at all — if you do a Google News search you'll find mention of this going back for years, as well as ongoing mention of updates to that deal. https://9to5mac.com/2019/12/24/iphone-camera-supplier/ https://9to5mac.com/2019/12/24/iphone-camera-supplier/ https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Electronics/Sony-to-supply-Apple-with-advanced-image-sensor-for-next-iPhone https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Electronics/Sony-to-supply-...
- etempleton 4y agoNo, everyone who cared to know already knew that iPhones use Sony sensors. Apple never went out of their way to say so, but it wasn’t some big secret. The headline is click bait.
