Angelo Badalamenti has died
- brntsllvn 4y agoThis is upsetting. I loved all his work with David Lynch: Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet. He'll be sorely missed.
- it_citizen 4y agoSame. Laura Palmer's and Mullholland drive theme are still both in my primary Spotify playlist. His compositions really created a unique atmosphere.
- BLKNSLVR 4y agoIt was Lost Highway that brought me into the fold. Red Bats with Teeth. I still listen to that a couple of times per year.
- akhmatova 4y agoWe lost Julie Cruise earlier in the year, too. It's almost too much.
- questime 4y agospits out espresso
- Borrible 4y agoDAMN bad news.
- yellow_lead 4y agoTo see him in action - I love this video where he explains how he wrote Laura Palmer's theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-eqgr_gn4k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-eqgr_gn4k
- schipplock 4y agoThis is how I imagine passion. Lovely. Every second.
- andrepd 4y agoThis is the exact video that came to mind when I saw the news.
- sprkwd 4y agoIt's a wonderful video, right?
- fiveg 4y agoBeautifully sampled in the intro to this mix by Nicholas Jaar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h1h1JdaWGk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h1h1JdaWGk
- lastdong 4y agoBeautiful, thank you for sharing.
- subharmonicon 4y agoI have fond memories of being in my late teens and getting the newly released CD of the Twin Peaks TV soundtrack and listening to it on repeat for weeks. I hadn’t ever purchased a CD anything like that up to that point, but had enjoyed the show and really loved the music.
- soco 4y agoHalf of that magic is Julee Cruise's voice...
- messe 4y agoWho sadly also passed away this year.
- baandang 4y agoNot really. The magic is in Badalamenti's harmony. Julee Cruise - Floating into the Night is one of my all time favorite albums. The Art of Being a Girl is just nothing without Badalamenti. You can hear this even more so with the Badalamenti and Dolores O'Riordan songs. Badalamenti was just a wizard with a type of introspective melancholy.
- Borrible 4y agoHeartbreaking. He just left the piano for a moment. It will echo through eternity.
- panzerboiler 4y agoToday no music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2FiFAuQOK8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2FiFAuQOK8
- petodo 4y agoSo he survived Vangelis only by 7 months. Though I am still missing the most Jóhann Jóhannsson, soon it will be 5 years. Both composer and singer of this Twin peaks track both passed this year. :-( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBdH6SjBEX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBdH6SjBEX8
- billfruit 4y agoAmongst other things he also composed the theme for Barcelona Olympics, 1992.
- 2devnull 4y agoI know what I’ll be listening to today.
- W-Stool 4y agoSo sorry to hear this. What a legacy of music he left us! For anyone who hasn't heard the music from Twin Peaks lately (or even never) listen to it today. It completely stands the test of time and is still one of my favorite albums. It is just so iconic - nothing else quite like it. RIP Angelo.
