LayOffTracker.com.... Feels a lot like the 2000 and 2008.
- tptacek 4y agoNot really. Whole companies were collapsing in the FuckedCompany era. What we're seeing today are companies that were staffed against 2019-2020 growth projections. The dominant theme of all these discussions seems to be "I can't believe there was so many people working at this company in the first place". It feels very different.
- cm2187 4y agoProbaly more 2019-2020 capital raising projections. I.e. companies burning money and surviving on VC money.
- cutenewt 4y agoThe destination is the same, but the speed is different. The next 3 to 8 years will have a bunch of companies like Evernote: "They're still around? I thought they died a long time ago."
- tptacek 4y agoBecause nobody uses or talks about their product anymore, not because macroeconomic conditions made it impossible to have a note-taking company anymore. It's very different.
- FrontierPsych 4y agohah - absolutely. I remember fuckedcompany.com very well. Great site. http://fuckedcompany.com/ http://fuckedcompany.com/ FuckedCompany was a take off from Fast Company. My schadenfreude level was high, very high during the dot-com bust in 2000.
