I just recently assembled a tile server using mapnik, OSM data and modtile. Data is importing on our new geocoding server, against using OSM data and Nominatim. We will be switching our routing service over to pgrouting, but I have to wait for a massive hardware budget to make sure it can equal gmaps in routing performance. Going completely over to OSM takes alot of work when building your own hardware stack, but our alternative (with relatively low traffic), is paying google maps $40k next year, and who know what the following...
