I live in Cairns. Based on some of my previous interactions with the council I wouldn't be surprised if your AI was talking to their AI / crudely programmed spreadsheet. That said, if you actually stop and chat to some of the parking inspectors you'll find some of the nicest / most understanding people in the business. Which is saying a lot considering they walk around in 30°C+ (with a plus 25 dew point) for much of the year. I've had them rip up tickets, sign them to make sure they don't fine me later, and stand around making jokes about the abuse they get. Good bunch. Very human.
- Gordonjcp 4y agoThis is often the case. Many years ago in Glasgow I couldn't find a parking space near a building where I was dropping off huge boxes of equipment, but - aha! here comes a parking attendant! So, I asked him where I could park near there. "Oh, just park right there behind that car" he said. Yeah, but that's on a double yellow, won't you give me a ticket for that? "Yes, I will, and because the *end* of the double yellow has been all dug up by someone and crudely filled in with tar but without repainting it, the double yellows are not correctly terminated as per the regulations. Which is what you'll tell the parking ticket office when you phone them to contest it. That will be backed up by the photo I take, and the ticket will be cancelled." Wait, are you sure? "Yeah, of course, I've been telling them to fix that for months now!" Okay then. So I did, he did, I rang, they looked, and that was the end of that.
