After bringing their sick baby to the hospital, the state took their kids away
- g42gregory 4y agoMy understanding is that in the socialist countries, like former Soviet Union, Cuba, East Germany for example, the children were considered property of the State and parents had only limited rights over their children. Obviously, in the child abuse cases, the parents will lose custody and for a good reason. But in socialist countries, the State is very heavy handed and parents could easily lose custody because of mistakes or various misunderstandings. The checks and balances are gone in a fully socialist system and once it goes the wrong way, it's very hard to correct.
- leed25d 4y agoI had an encounter with Child Protective Services in San Francisco California. The child, my infant daughter, was taken from her mother right after birth by CPS due to abuse. The abuse amounted to serious, pre-natal exposure to multiple drugs. It took seven months and eight visits to Family Court for me to get custody of my daughter. I was clean and sober for 14 years, free of intoxicants of any kind. I was (and I still am) gainfully employed in the tech sector. I took a DNA test to prove paternity with 99.999% certainty. I went through months of supervised visitation as well as psychological and psychiatric examinations. Through all of this, I was thinking that most people just get to take their kids home from the hospital and these CPS bureaucrats are poking and prodding and examining every corner of my life. I found out later that they had been moving along on a parallel track to put my daughter up for adoption. My daughter is 11 years old now and, apart from being born, she has never met her mother.
