For those saying how obvious it is for us to mandate two pilots:
Should buses have two drivers? A large bus carries about as many people as a small plane. And per distance, road travel is > 100 times more dangerous than air travel.

- ipython 4y agoThe failure modes are vastly different and the ability for a passenger to pilot a bus to the side of the road in an emergency is much more probable than the aircraft. This is not a reasonable comparison at all.
- tinus_hn 4y agoCan anyone stop a bus? Does it stop automatically if the driver has a heart attack? Will all the passengers die? Can anyone land a plane? Does it land automatically if the pilot has a heart attack? Will all the passengers die? The outcomes are quite different.
- nottorp 4y agoHmm a tangent thought. Does a bus with an automatic transmission and cruise control on stop on its own if the driver passes out?
- jen20 4y agoThat is an argument for two drivers in busses, not one pilot in planes.
- nottorp 4y agoOr a dead man’s switch like they have in trains? I didnt post it as an argument.
- tinus_hn 4y agoWho knows? But will doing nothing result in a disaster 100% of the time? Will the passengers be able to resolve the situation?
