What the Twitter shadowbanning revelations tell us about tribalism and democracy
- anigbrowl 4y agoA tendentious article whose actual title is 'Why liberals cannot acknowledge Twitter discrimination against conservatives' as opposed to the more analytical approach suggested by the HN submission. I sometimes edit titles myself when there's a good article with an overly clickbaity headline, but in this case the headline and the content are of a piece.
- BMc2020 4y agoHe leaps from the general to the specific and back again when it suits him. Liberals become all liberals in one sentence and certain liberals in another. FYI you'll be encountering the word heuristics a lot: Heuristics Heuristics are mental shortcuts that allow people to solve problems and make judgments quickly and efficiently. These rule-of-thumb strategies shorten decision-making time and allow people to function without constantly stopping to think about their next course of action. Reality is complicated and ideology is path dependent, implying that almost all movements have certain legitimate claims. But rather than starting from this premise, many liberals rely on unsophisticated heuristics. If this is your cuppa tea you may enjoy this article. I have an unsophisticated heuristikkk I use, if I see it comes from substack it's probably from a conservative banned from somewhere else.
