I live in the Nice area. Food prices in Monaco supermarkets and some restaurants are pretty similar to the French cities around. Of course there are fancy expensive ones in the most premium areas, but you can find French prices around easily. Public transport (buses) is cheap, and currently they're experimenting with making it free. To get to France or Italy, you can use a French train (SNCF) which goes every 30-60 minutes most of the time.
