Apple spent nearly $100B on product innovation in last 5 years: Report
- pr337h4m 4y agoHmmm... "During the year of the iPhone's launch, AAPL jumped from $75 billion to $100 billion in market cap." https://www.thestreet.com/apple/stock/1980-to-now-the-journey-of-apples-market-cap https://www.thestreet.com/apple/stock/1980-to-now-the-journe...
- jeroen79 4y agowhere did it all go then? there products are not inovative at all!
- PpEY4fu85hkQpn 4y ago> "The spending can also be interpreted as Apple having more products and services in its research line beside the current iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, among others," the report said. Also, the M series processors are absolutely innovative.
- yummypaint 4y agoI hope that isn't true, because that would be astonishingly embarrassing. That's 20x large hadron colliders, or 100x FRIBs, or 10x james webb space telescopes, or 3x Manhattan projects, or 10x gemini programs. It's true they developed a processor architecture, but they aren't even responsible for the fab. The total equity of TSMC is like 80 billion. It just makes no sense.
- jmartrican 4y agoor 10x metaverses.
- guywithahat 4y agoHonestly this makes sense from a timeline perspective. Chip manufacturing and research is incredibly expensive (Intel spent 13 billion+ in 2018 on R&D, which was more than Apple that year), and Apple's jump in spending occurred shortly before M1 macs entered the scene. Obviously they have very different product lines but the switch away from x86 must have been unbelievably expensive
- cc101 4y agoIt's hard to find the results. How much of this is paying for feature bloat?
