In the early days when CS and languages are new things, we need evolve faster. When things kind of settling down, we need avoid NIH. Time is different. we don't reinvent new languages to compete against English, Chinese, Spanish,etc nowadays, I'm sure that's different in the early days when human was figuring out how to communicate and how to create the language they need.
