Cocaine and alcohol both have societal measures in place to prevent abuse (mostly shame based, excluding hollywood and the "adult industry"). Remove those and what do we have ? Overindulgence, dissolution, and complete shift towards hedonism and away from eudaimonia. Those two should be balanced.
