>>Point nine recurring equals one because the people who operate under the assumption that point nine recurring equals one are real mathematicians who accomplish real maths, and the people who believe otherwise are to a man gawking, wrong-headed bystanders who have no business playing with concepts they don't understand, and who have accomplished no significant mathematics. At all. The people who are right are the people whose beliefs haven't led to the undermining and collapse of all mathematics. The people who are wrong do not matter. Be quiet. Adults are working.
- vba616 4y ago"The people who are right are the people whose beliefs haven't led to the undermining and collapse of all mathematics." If this is a criterion for determining who is right, then it implies there is an imaginable alternative. There has to be a counterfactual in order to make a meaningful statement about a fact. If we say "X is blue" then there must be such a thing, at least hypothetically, as a color that is not blue. But I can't imagine beliefs leading "to the undermining and collapse of all mathematics" much less those beliefs being "right". (now I looked at the link, and I think I wish whoever this is would focus their venom more squarely at the "placebo effect" which, when explicitly studied or invoked, is an anti-scientific cancer)
