Why wasn't the steam engine invented in China?
- socialdemocrat 4y agoI have discussed what I think are the primary reasons in this story and criticized some other theories I often see such as Mongols stopping industrialization or China not being capitalist enough.
- Kukumber 4y ago> China not being capitalist enough. did they came up with the gunpowder because they were capitalist enough but Europeans not? Fusion energy R&D is mostly funded by governments, is it because the world is not capitalist enough? the semiconductor industry is dominated by Asia, does that mean that EU/NA is not capitalist enough? saying something "isn't capitalist enough" is disrespecting the people who actually dedicate their life to research
- tuatoru 4y agoDisappointing. Does not mention any of the extensive literature on the subject of innovation in pre-twentieth-century China.
