I am a huge remote work fan and basically refuse to ever attempt to write code in an open plan office again…that said there definitely is some electricity missing in those very early stages when working remotely. I’ve been involved with a few startups at the “handful of people in a room together” stages, and did feel that the setting made a difference. Working late in a shabby but cool office, gathered around the whiteboard, excitedly sharing ideas, stepping outside to the buzz of NYC at night. I’m romanticizing, but there’s an energy to it that I’ve missed in the past couple of years doing it remotely.
